If your Dentist does his job correctly, are braces even necessary?

Question by Albert: If your Dentist does his job correctly, are braces even necessary?
Me and my siblings all have straight teeth and people are always amazed that we never had braces.
Somebody once told me “you must have had a really good dentist”
I do remember having a great small town dentist that everybody went to.
So, assuming you take your kids every 6 months, should a dentist be able to x-ray and catch problems giving you better chances of not needing braces?
I know pulling teeth before they fall out is looked at as bad, but my old dentist practiced this and my teeth are perfect.
Have dentists just relied so much on orthodontist work that they are not doing as much as they could?

Not in every case. Yes some problems can be caught early by a good dentist, but some people just have bad teeth even with a proper dentist they need braces. This is something that just depends on each individual case. My family couldn’t afford a dentist so until I was 17 I never saw one and still have perfect teeth, I also never pulled a tooth until it was ready to fall out.

Hello..Tha fact that you entire family has straight teeth indicates that it’s in the “genes’…While your old dentist saw fit ti extract baby teeth just before the adult teeth came in isn’t really why your family has straight teeth…Extracting wisdom teeth early can be a good decision however and keep them from pushing the other teeth out of alignment…Orthodontists do their job when natural teeth don’t come in a straight as people want..but even after the teeth are realigned the person will have to wear a retainer from then on or the teeth will tend to go back to where they started.

A good dentist is always an incredible asset especially when it comes to children. However whether or not braces are needed is usually determined by genetics. Even with being seen regularly (biannual visits) there is always the possibility of needing orthodontia. When the adult teeth come in, they may be crowded, congenitally missing in some cases, or even just by having over retained baby teeth it could cause the new ones to shift.
