Question by PortWine: I’d like to ask the G&WS folks a non gender-related question, because you folks are smart.?
I own a tech support biz, and I’ve figured out my nemesis customer. I’d like your insights on how you’d describe/name this type of customer personality. Here’s how things go: When I’m going over this customer’s options and costs, they cut me off and say “Just fix it, I’ll pay you.” Then, when it’s too expensive or breaks again (both of which could have been avoided), they claim I didn’t explain things well enough to them. Imagine saying this to your dentist: “I don’t want to hear about flossing, I want a more convenient solution, and I reserve the right to yell at you if I get cavities.” I have other customer types that do dumb stuff repeatedly, are demanding, try to get stuff for free, and many other irritating things, but they don’t stifle me at all like the one I’ve described as my nemesis customer. What type of personality conflict is going on here in your opinion?
Wholly crap, Twlight, that’s awesome! Although these folks are cheap, they tend to have a lot of money and pay on time. It’s just so dreadful for me to work with them. Most other techs welcome any customer that pays well & needs a lot of support. Not me, if they’re like this.
I’m impressed, as I thought I would be. Thank you all very much for your insights. Each one is very helpful.

Dentists come in all shapes and sizes, but you want only the best for you and your family. How do you tell an average dentist from a good dentist from a great dentist, without making an appointment?
Â
Many people have difficulty visiting the dentist. Perhaps they are nervous about the fillings or the work that may to be done or perhaps they cannot afford it. Some people are downright scared of some of the things that are done in a dentistry office and others think that they do not need the services of a dentist. However, with one American every hour dying of oral cancer and thousands of people with sore teeth and gums and yellowing teeth, the importance of a great dentist cannot be understated.
Â
When you are looking for your own dentist, there are some easy things to consider first. Is the office clean and the staff friendly? Are you able to get in to talk to someone about setting up your appointment quickly? For that matter, was the person talking to you on the phone for the initial set up friendly? It is very easy to make a quick decision about whether or not to stick with a given dentist based on the staff and what the office looks like. It should a comfortable atmosphere, but still professional and you should feel as at ease as possible under the circumstances. And of course, it should be family based; you may not have children now, but it’s good to have everything set up ahead of time, just in case.
Â
Once you’ve found a good office, then there are some details that make the best dentists stand out. You may want a mercury free dentist; one who doesn’t use mercury in their fillings, but instead uses materials that are easier on the body and more affordable as well. Some dentists have porcelain caps and give full on dental implants if you are missing teeth. And of course, the importance of teeth whitening cannot be understated, for even if you don’t need it now, it only takes one special occasion to make you glad you can do it! The more services you have access to, the better and it is the range of quality services that makes the great dentists stand out from the simply average ones.
Â
Finally of course, trust your gut instincts. If something feels off about a dentist or his or her office, then likely there is something there that is making you uncomfortable. If you’re uncomfortable, then it will be a lot harder to get the work done or even make yourself go for routine cleanings. Always try to get to a dentist you can connect with early on, even if it takes some effort to do.
Â
Do your research carefully before you commit to a dentist because it can be a real pain to switch dentists part way. It’s best to find your ideal dentist right away so you can skip all of the nonsense of bouncing around and get settled into a good routine of dental care aided by your dentist. Make sure that your dentist offers as many services as possible in a way that is comfortable for you and even see if they will call you to remind you for check ups! Whatever you decide on though, make sure that in the end you have a dentist you like and can deal with and who will do right by your teeth.
Denver Smith is not only an excellent Austin dentist but he is also a mercury free dentist .
